In 2004 the Australia Day Foundation introduced, as part of the UK Australia Day celebrations the 'Australian of the Year in the UK' Award and the 'Honorary Australian of the Year in the UK' Award. The first is open to Australians in the UK in all fields of endeavour – science, business, sport, media, culture, film, television, radio, etc. The second is open to all non-Australians in the UK. The first award will provide everyone with the opportunity to recognise an Australian who has excelled in their own right, in the United Kingdom. The second award offers opportunity to recognise a non-Australian resident of the UK who displays 'Australian characteristics' or has contributed significantly to Australia.
'Young Australian Achiever of the Year in the UK' Award. This award was introduced by the Australia Day Foundation in 2005 to recognise the achievements of a young Australian in Britain in any field of endeavour – business, sport, arts and culture, and the professions.

Nominees must not be Australian citizens for the 'Honorary Australian of the Year in the UK' Award. State and Federal politicians and vice-regal officers are not eligible. Groups of people or couples will not normally be eligible though in exceptional cases the selection panel reserves the right to consider such nominations.
